Some worn, damaged clothing unsuitable for sale or donation to the needy can be recycled by some charities as industrial rags: t-shirts, towels, shirts, flannelette shirts and pyjamas, sheets – especially white materials.
These need to be:
- Clean – not soiled with dirt, oil, grease, paint or blood
- Absorbent - ideally natural fibres, no denim
- Minimum size – suitable to be cut down to 400mm square (industry standard). Baby and toddler clothing can be too small.
Please check with the receiving op shop. If your items do not meet the above criteria, please do not put them in charity bins, as the charity will incur costs for the waste disposal.
